"Cut The Ropes:
What is left when we let go of the constraints of others, society, ourselves? Our silly little made up stories and traps keeping us small and confined? Is our identity ever really solidified or is it a constant evolving and unfolding? Always fluid ever moving. Ropes and rocks that are not ours holding us down. Those stories and perceptions only hold power over us if we allow them. A constant forgetting and remembering of who we really are. Trees are heliotropic. They follow the sun. They follow the light. They will not be taken down by your ropes and your rocks. Any chance they have, any twig, any branch, any leaf, will aim itself upward toward the radiant light. And see we are like that too. And the time we come into our own is a time when we cut the ropes. We move the rocks. The crone is reviled in our culture for that reason because she won’t behave herself. She won’t be silent. She won’t stay put. She will go to the largest place that she wishes to inhabit and she will bring her beauty with her. She will match beauty upon beauty. And worse than that a crone will set others free. Never be ashamed of your strangeness or your oddities. They are the arrows pointing to your gifts. There is treasure in your strangeness. You are one of a kind. If you are seeking to be normal I hope you’ll get over it very soon.Main Story:
I started to think about this piece in 2023 when I moved away from my hometown. My soul was being called west and I wasn’t exactly sure why. I still don’t fully understand it, but what I do know today is that my spirit is meant to be wild and free. Not confined. Not defined. I broke free from addiction in 2018 and then found myself in another trap. The attachment to what others think of me. An impossible game to play. Trying to bend and mold into what I “should be.” Externalizing my okayness dependent on what you think of me. Old labels like alcoholic were starting to feel limiting. Why am I saying this word when all I really am is me and alcohol no longer has a hold on me? Labels are a tricky thing, they can bring us into community, but disconnect us from our true self. Today I am just me and what a gift to be free! Explorer of consciousness, curiosity encourager, and lover of the uniqueness and magic of each human. When I met Jonathon in 2023 I knew he was going to be the one to create the piece for me. What a beautiful, thoughtful, radiant human. The process of working together was such a loving tender experience that brought tears to my eyes many times. I am so grateful he was able to bring this idea to life and really see my heart and soul. Thank you thank you thank you to it all!"
