Why we need you?
The Denver Streets Partnership, National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS), the Pedestrian Dignity project, and America Walks are excited to support a fun, meaningful and educational walking/rolling/gathering opportunity centered on youth mobility justice. This event takes place during National Week Without Driving.
The National Week Without Driving challenges elected officials, public officials, transportation professionals, organizations, advocates, and individuals to go a week without driving themselves in any car. The goal is for those who have the option to drive regularly to understand the barriers and challenges that non-drivers (pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, rollers) face when trying to move safely in their communities, and to work with non-drivers to create better communities for all. Take a look at the local campaign page for Denver here. If you are a driver and have committed to not drive the week of Oct 2-8, please sign-up here. Please also encourage your elected leaders to commit.
Did you know that traffic crashes are a leading cause of death for young people under 25? With pedestrian fatalities on the rise (see article), which are especially problematic on our larger arterial roads like Federal Blvd and Colorado Blvd (see Dangerous by Design report, it is important to understand growing trends around younger people who can’t or choose not to drive (see article).
